CTA CELEBRATES ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY

DURING CTA WEEK IN BRUSSELS

WAGENINGEN, The Netherlands, 01 October 2009 – CTA will celebrate 25 years of service to the 79 African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) states at a special ceremony on 14 October 2009, in the Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren, Belgium. The Ceremony will feature the announcement of the winners of the Best Journalism and Best Community Communication Awards for journalists who have contributed to agricultural and rural development in ACP countries.

The ceremony will be a highlight in what promises to be an exciting ‘CTA Week in Brussels’. From 12 to 16 October 2009, CTA will host a series of events including the CTA annual seminar, this year themed the “Role of Media in the Agricultural and Rural Development of ACP Countries” and a “Brussels Briefing" on the same topic.

Keynote speakers include Dr Ibrahim Assane Mayaki, CEO of NEPAD Secretariat. Over 200 high level ACP and EU delegates as well as representatives from international organisations and development partners are also expected to attend.

CTA week offers a unique forum to discuss topical issues which contribute to improving agricultural and rural development in the ACP countries. More detailed information on the CTA Annual Seminar, the CTA 25th Anniversary celebration and the Brussels Briefing is available on the seminar's website at annualseminar2009.cta.int.

About CTA

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) was established under the Lomé Convention between the ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) Group of States and the European Union Member States. Since 2000, it has operated within the framework of the ACP-EC Cotonou Agreement. CTA develops and provides services to improve access to information for agricultural and rural development and to strengthen the capacity of ACP countries to produce, acquire, exchange and utilise information in this area. CTA’s programmes are designed to: provide a wide range of information products and services and enhance awareness of relevant information sources; promote the integrated use of appropriate communication channels and intensify contacts and information exchange (particularly intra-ACP); and develop ACP capacity to generate and manage agricultural information and to formulate ICM strategies, including those relevant to science and technology.
